SAN MATEO – SUPERIOR COURT BENCH ELECTS PRESIDING JUDGE AND ASSISTANT PRESIDING JUDGE FOR 2017-2018

On Friday, September 16, 2016, the San Mateo County Superior Court Judges elected their Presiding Judge and Assistant Presiding Judge for the years 2017 and 2018. The Honorable Susan Irene Etezadi was selected as the Presiding Judge, having served as Assistant Presiding Judge for the past two years. The Honorable Jonathan E. Karesh will serve as the Assistant Presiding Judge.

Judge Etezadi was appointed to the bench in September of 2006. She served as Criminal Presiding Judge from 2009 to 2010 and as Supervising Judge for the Juvenile Court from 2010 to 2014. Judge Etezadi also served as Grand Jury Judge from July 2014 to June 2015 and more recently served as Civil Law and Motion Judge from July 2015 to December 2015. In addition to being the current Assistant Presiding Judge, Judge Etezadi is assigned as a Trial Judge and also supervises the Commissioners and Pro Tem Judges.

Presiding Judge John L. Grandsaert stated “Judge Etezadi has been a San Mateo County Superior Court Judge, ably handling every assignment she has been given, for over 10 years. After several years as the Supervising Judge of the Juvenile Court, after presiding over a myriad of trials before and after her Juvenile Court assignment, after completing a Civil Law and Motion assignment and now after two years as our Assistant Presiding Judge, Judge Etezadi is more than ready to serve as our next Presiding Judge.”

Assistant Presiding Judge-Elect Jonathan E. Karesh was appointed to the bench in January 2001. He presently serves as the Civil Law and Motion Judge and Bridges Program Review Judge.
