UNITED STATES COURTS – CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT

A recent public symposium celebrated 5C years of the Criminal Justice Act with panels on the challenges, choices and commitments of federal defense efforts, and what can be learned from effective defense practices outside the United States.

The keynote speaker was Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, whose father, Robert F. Kennedy, was an important supporter of the right to adequate Iegal defense for all Americans. The Criminal Justice Act of 1964 is considered one of the most important pieces of legislation to come out of Kennedy’s tenure as Attorney General.
