June 27, 2024 - 12:00-1:00PM Speaker: Colette Bruggman, Clerk/Executive Officer and Todd Eyster, Supervising Deputy Clerk Demystifying Appeals will offer insight into the appellate process and include discussion on common pitfalls as well as traps for the unwary and how to avoid them. It will also include a discussion of any updates to the California Rules of Court. About Colette M. Bruggman Colette is a Mandan, North Dakota native and graduate of Mandan High School. Colette received her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North Dakota in 1984 with a degree in accounting and her Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota school of law in 1987. Colette has been licensed to practice law in North Dakota since October 1987. In February 2009, Colette was named Assistant Clerk/Executive Officer for the Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, in Sacramento, California. Previously, Colette was Chief Deputy Clerk for the North Dakota Supreme Court from July 1992 through February 2009. Prior to joining the North Dakota Supreme Court, Colette practiced law with the Vogel Law Firm in Mandan, North Dakota, and Legal Assistance of North Dakota in Bismarck. In addition to the National Conference of Appellate Court Clerks (NCACC), Colette is a member of the State Bar Association of North Dakota and the California Appellate Court Clerks Association. Colette is married to Bernie Bruggman; they have one son, Beaux, and one granddaughter, Liliana. About Todd Eyster Todd is a California native. He was born in Mountain View, California and raised in Roseville, California. Todd graduated from Oakmont High School in Roseville in 2006 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Sciences from California State University, Sacramento in 2012. Todd was promoted to the position of Supervising Deputy Clerk for the Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, in Sacramento, California in April 2019. Todd was originally hired fulltime as an office assistant in November of 2012. Prior to that, Todd had worked on and off as temporary staff for the Court of Appeal since the summer of 2006. Todd is also a registered Pharmacy Technician with the California State Board of Pharmacy and has been since August of 2010. Click here for the flyer.
