SAN JOAQUIN – VETERANS TREATMENT COURT FOURTH GRADUATION CLASS

The San Joaquin Superior Court will hold a graduation ceremony on October 2, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Department 10D of the new Stockton Courthouse located at 180 E. Weber Avenue in Stockton. The ceremony will be presided over by Judge Barbara A. Kronlund. This is the court’s fourth ceremony since the San Joaquin Veteran’s Court was founded in 2015.

Nine veterans are presently on track to graduate on October 2nd . The ceremony marks their successful completion of an intensive program designed to connect veterans suffering from substance abuse and/or mental health disorders with the benefits and treatment they have earned.

The program is a combination of judicial supervision, justice partner collaborative efforts and appropriate treatment and support. This unique collaboration focuses on treatment-based alternatives to incarceration for veterans charged with committing crimes linked to issues such as traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, and mental health issues resulting from the veteran’s service in the U.S. armed forces. Also, each participant in the program is partnered with a mentor who is a combat vet. Each mentor acts as a coach, role model and advocate, sharing experiences, guiding the veteran through the program and lending support when needed.

Members of the press and public are invited to attend this uplifting graduation ceremony.
