Legal Terminology: LPI Word of the Month August 2022

Mens rea – In Latin, this translates to “guilty mind”, and refers to a person’s mental state that makes his/her act a crime. Common mental states are intention, knowledge or foresight.

(Example: taking another person’s real or personal property with the knowledge that it does not belong to you will make the act a crime).
