Weaverville – Trinity Superior Court is sponsoring Juror Appreciation Week to recognize Trinity County residents for their invaluable contribution to the justice system and to highlight the honor and importance of serving on a jury.
On Monday, May 9 2016, the regularly scheduled jury trial day, the court will display banners of appreciation and will serve the jurors summoned that day coffee, juice, along with breakfast snacks and fruit. Educational materials regarding California’s innovative one-day or one-trial system will also be available.
According to Elizabeth Johnson, Presiding Judge, the objective of Juror Appreciation Week is to pay tribute to past and prospective jurors for their contributions to the American system of justice. Posters will be placed in public locations with the aim of reaching jurors with a message that offers thanks and emphasizes the importance that a trial by jury is a fundamental democratic ideal of our nation. “Trinity County is very fortunate to have so many dedicated citizens committed to performing this important civic duty. We want every juror to feel appreciated and to understand that—especially in these difficult economic times—we value their personal sacrifice by the service they provide to our court and the community, we are especially gratified that jury panels have increased since we appealed to people in our community to come forward when summoned. It shows dedication to one of the important liberty protections in our society.” Johnson said.
