Good Friday – Is it a Holiday or Not?

Good Friday comes early this year. Good Friday is March 29, 2024, two days before Easter 2024, which is March 31, 2024. Easter is determined by the Sunday following the first full moon after the vernal (or spring equinox). Good Friday is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvery. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Tridum. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great and Holy Friday, and Black Friday.

Good Friday is not an official holiday in the United States. Some banks might be closed depending on branch decisions so check before you go. The U.S. Post Office will be open as well as UPS and FedEx. The Stock Market will be closed on Good Friday, which includes the New York Stock Exchange Market and Nasdaq. Government offices, city, state, and federal government buildings including courthouses will remain open. Select libraries around the country will be closed. There isn’t a hard and fast rule for public schools so check the schools calendar to see if it is included in Easter break.
