Easy Gifts from Your Kitchen

If you’re like me, food is one of my love languages. Sharing gifts from the kitchen and seeing the delight on someone’s face is one the best things ever! Try one of these easy gift ideas and see for yourself.

Homemade Frozen Cookie Dough

Long after friends and family have finished their holiday and valentine’s treats, those cravings start coming back. Mix a few batches of your best cookie dough and form the dough into logs, wrap in plastic wrap, then wrap with foil, and place in the freezer.  Look at you with a treats to share!

Homemade Baking Mixes & Spice Blends

I love making my own baking mixes, and it’s another gift that provides some holiday cheer long after the decorations are put away.

A few ideas: pancake mix, taco seasoning, ranch dressing mix, rosemary salt, hot chocolate mix; granola mix; lemonade mix; BBQ rub; flavored coffee mix; ice cream toppings. A quick online search can give you tons of ideas of what to put in a cute little jar along with a hand-written recipe.

Fruit and/or Vegetables

If you’re looking for the easiest possible edible gift, try gifting some fruit or veggies. The trick with giving away fresh produce is presentation. Sure, you could slap a bow on a mesh bag of clementines, but aesthetically it’s bit underwhelming. Enter: cellophane and ribbon. You can pretty much wrap just about anything in cellophane and ribbon, and it instantly makes it fancy.

Simmer Pot Kits

If you’ve never used a simmer pot kit, they are so easy! You just empty the package (cellophane bag tied with raffia or ribbon) into a pot, fill it with water, and let it simmer on the stove over low heat for several hours. Your house will smell incredible. Putting it into a slow cooker is another option, and if you continue adding water when needed, you can keep it going for a few days.

Make sure when you assemble the ingredients in the bag to include the instructions!

Examples: Cut an orange into wedges, add a handful of fresh cranberries, a spoonful of whole cloves, a few cinnamon sticks, a couple of bay leaves, and a star anise pod. Lemons and fresh, woodsy herbs like rosemary, sage, and mint make another great kit.

If it’s natural and fragrant, it will probably work for a simmer pot kit.
