ALAMEDA – ANNOUNCES OPENING OF NEW, LIMITED JURISDICTION CIVIL DEPARTMENT IN OAKLAND

In order to enhance public access to its services, the Superior Court of Alameda County announces the opening of a new, limited jurisdiction civil department in Oakland effective January 6, 2020.

The Superior Court of Alameda County is pleased to announce the opening of a new, limited jurisdiction civil department in Department 106, located in the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, 661 Washington Street, Oakland. Located in the same building as the Court’s North County Self-Help Center, this new department will hear North County Small Claims, Civil Harassment, Workplace Violence, and School Violence Restraining Orders. South County Small Claims, Civil Harassment, Workplace Violence, and School Violence Restraining Orders will be heard in Department 519 at the Hayward Hall of Justice, located at 24405 Amador Street, Hayward.

The opening of the new limited civil department in Oakland is responsive to community input that the Court received while developing its 2020-2029 Strategic Plan, which the Court released publicly on October 28, 2019. By co-locating the new department in the same building as the North County Self-Help Center, the Court intends to enhance court users’ access to related court services. The Court is confident that these changes will benefit the public, and looks forward to announcing further efforts to implement the 2020-2029 Strategic Plan later in 2020.
