SANTA CLARA – GOVERNOR APPOINTS JOHNNY C. GOGO TO THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT BENCH

Johnny Cepeda Gogo, of San Jose, has been appointed to a judgeship in the Santa Clara County Superior Court. Mr. Gogo has served as a deputy district attorney at the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office since 2001. Previously, he was an associate at Calvo and Clark LLP from 2000 to 2001. Mr. Gogo also served as a deputy district attorney at the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office from 1999 to 2000 and was a volunteer attorney at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office in 1999. Additionally, Mr. Gogo served as an assistant attorney general at the Office of the Attorney General of Guam from 1997-1999.

Mr. Gogo earned his Juris Doctor degree and graduated cum laude from the Thomas Jefferson School of Law. In 2013, he was presented with the George W. Kennedy Excellence in Prosecution Award from the San Jose Police Department, the Diversity Award from the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Unity Award from the Minority Bar Coalition, and the Clayton L. Haupert Excellence Award from the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. In 2017, Mr. Gogo became an Asian Pacific Heritage Month honoree, recognized by the television program Asian Pacific America for his youth advocacy and in 2018, Mr. Gogo received the Santa Clara County Bar Association and La Raza Lawyers Association’s Unsung Heroes Award. Notable amongst the numerous awards he has received over the years, the Santa Clara County Mock Trial Volunteer of the Year award is referred to as the “Annual Johnny Gogo Award” due to Mr. Gogo’s numerous years of volunteering for the mock trial program.

“A long-standing member of the Court’s Community Outreach Committee and a community prosecutor for the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, Mr. Gogo has proven himself to be valued member of the legal community and a public servant for the people of Santa Clara County,” said Presiding Judge Deborah A. Ryan. “The Court welcomes Mr. Gogo to our Bench and looks forward to his contributions to our core mission of providing equal justice for all in a fair accessible manner and promoting public trust and confidence in the judicial system.”
