The San Bernardino County Superior Court will expand access to the homeless population by holding ‘Shelter Court’, at the Knopf Center located at 8380 Cypress Avenue, in Fontana, starting on August 16, 2019.
Shelter Court hearings in Fontana will be held on the 3rd Friday of each month, beginning August 16, 2019, until January 17, 2020. Beginning February, 2020, Shelter Court sessions will alternate monthly starting with the Upland location, located at 1501 West Ninth Street, Suite D, in Upland. Shelter Court sessions in Fontana will be heard on the 3rd Friday every other month, and Shelter Court sessions in Upland will be heard on the 4th Friday every other month. Adding an additional ‘Shelter Court’ location represents the Court’s continued effort to increase access to justice by providing a more accessible location for homeless defendants, who often times do not have access to transportation and as a result miss court appearances. This continued effort to increase access to justice will better serve the homeless population going forward and represents the continuous collaboration between the court, community and local homeless advocates.
