MONTEREY – SUPERIOR COURT SELECTS NEW COURT EXCUTIVE OFFICER

Chris Ruhl has been selected to serve as Court Executive Officer for the Monterey County Superior Court beginning May 15.

Ruhl has over 30 years of management, leadership, administrative and executive experience in a variety of settings, including 16 years in court administration in three different judicial systems. Since 2014, he has been serving as Court Executive Officer for the Superior Court of California, County of Mendocino.

Presiding Judge Mark E. Hood said, “The Court is fortunate to have selected someone with such an affable demeanor and breadth of court experience to provide continuity and leadership to the organization. Mr. Ruhl has a reputation of building strong internal and external relationships through effective communication and inclusive partnerships. We look forward to him joining our team.”

Ruhl stated that his most significant accomplishment at Mendocino County Superior Court has been “facilitating the transformation of staff morale and the organizational culture to one of respect, trust, transparency and strong teamwork.”

The Mendocino Presiding Judge and Assistant Presiding Judge agree, stating that “his style is collaborative” and “Mr. Ruhl works hard to empower all to do better and grow.” They describe him as a listener and a thoughtful, reflective, responsive and proactive executive.

Prior to working at Mendocino County Superior Court, Ruhl was Deputy Court Administrator for Pierce County District Court in Tacoma, Wash. He has also served at the Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts and at the Minnesota Judicial Branch, State Court Administrator’s Office.

Ruhl was on the faculty of Concordia University and Hamline University School of Law, both in St. Paul, Minn., where he taught, among other courses, organizational management, ethics, cultural diversity and business law and research. After receiving his B.A. Summa Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota, Ruhl earned his Juris Doctorate Magna Cum Laude from the University of Minnesota Law School.
